Between self-confidence and ambitions, Gregory Bauge is about to live his first experience as a coach during a WC. DOES NOTAppointed National Sprint Trainer in March 2022, “Le Tigre” will pay attention to his foal’s performance (Mathilde Gros, Sebastien Vigier, Rayan Helal…) on the occasion of Worlds which takes place in France, at the Saint-Quentin-en-Yveline velodrome from 12 to 16 October. Confident thanks to the good results achieved during Europe in Munich two months ago, the national sprint coach is ambitious before the international deadline. “The easiest thing is to be an athlete because as a coach…”
The five-time team sprint world champion, who won his last title in 2015 at Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (place of the Worlds this year) explains the difference between the athlete and the coach. “Today I’m on the other side. It’s another exercise. The emotions are multiplied because I’m taking care of more athletes. It’s something I love. I’m really happy. The easiest thing is to be an athlete because as a coach , you have to deal with stress and the questions from everyone.” The ex-tracker insists that the mental aspect must be taken into account during the races. “Despite the good dynamic, it’s not necessarily easy when you have to control your own emotions, especially when you’re in competition. But I love this perfume, it’s something I’m discovering. Fortunately, I didn’t. I don’t. also have twenty athletes.”

“Athletes will be ready to fight anyone”
Grégory Baugé does not hide his desire to pocket more medals during these world championships on home soil: “Medals are definitely expected.” But the most important thing for him is to show a beautiful face. “As I tell my athletes, attitude is important. I know they will be ready to fight anyone. All I want is for you to be careful not to make mistakes. mistakes, that we have the knife between teeth and that we will fight until the end. I am here for them to perform. I want the best from my athletes. They have a lot of qualities and this World Cup will give us the opportunity to see the work that has already has been done on the mental and the physical dimension”, he adds. Without forgetting the main objective, which is to prepare the French team for Olympics of Paris 2024. “It’s important to take in as much information as possible before the Olympics. We’re lucky to have Worlds every year to correct certain things.”
