UPDATE ON THE SITUATION – The European continent has become the epicenter of this epidemic which has increased considerably in a few months.

I have decided to declare a public health emergency of international concern (USPPI) for monkey pox . Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, head of the World Health Organization, took responsibility on Saturday. Faced with the uncontrolled spread of the virus – nearly 17,000 cases recorded in 74 countries since the beginning of May – he chose to trigger the highest level of alert in the organization, despite a committee of experts divided on the question. (six votes in favor of a USPPI and nine votes against).

Because “this outbreak is concentrated among men who have sex with men, particularly those with multiple partners,” the disease could “be stopped with the right strategies in the right grouppointed Dr. Tedros. These measures must protect the health, human rights and dignity of the affected community. Stigma and discrimination can be as dangerous as any virus“.
