They are ready to work under the banner “Cathar Pyrenees”

the essential
The TCPPC association, which manages the tourist office and PAH, will continue to gather the vital forces in the area.

The General Assembly of the Tourism, Culture and Heritage Association of the Cathar Pyrenees, transporter of the Tourist Office (OT) and the Land of Art and History (PAH), took place on Friday in Aigues-Vives. The PAH project manager, Marina Salby, and the director of OT, Philippe Palvini, took turns to reassure the members about the vitality of the actions carried out by their respective departments. If “everything is swimming” now, it has not always been the case in recent years: the gradual merger of the tourist offices in Pays d’Olmes and Pays de Mirepoix, difficulties in recruiting a director, the Covid crisis…

President Henri Barrou had to face strong winds, but held the helm. By the time he hands over to Sylvain Salaméro, the situation is settled and the association’s financial foundations are solid: €36,833 in positive results in 2021 and equity to date of €340,062. This is enough to allow the new president to ensure in 2023 “a peaceful transition towards a future that promises to be rich in structural change”.

Alain Toméo, president of the community of municipalities in the country of Mirepoix (CCPM), explained the reasons for these changes: “The Ministry of Culture, in favor of the renewal of the mark of art and history, wanted this to be carried out directly by elected officials. The CCPM will therefore welcome the PAH service in it with an agreement linking it to the CCPO”. He also stated that “the tourist office would be managed, from January 1, 2024, by a public company”.

In the short term, the association will therefore be deprived of its management tasks. Sylvain Salaméro believes, like the chairman of the PAH commission, that “the associative mode had reached the limits of the exercise”.

However, the association does not disappear. Its purpose will be reoriented in such a way that the driving forces of the 57 municipalities in the area can continue to intervene in the development and evaluation of cultural heritage improvement and tourism development projects. All members agree to promote the “Cathar Pyrenees”, whose first ambassadors are the presidents of the two municipalities.
