They are ready by the end of the year

Located at 51 bis, avenue de Lattre-de-Tassigny, near the rescue centre, the Briarois committee of the Secours populaire français held a sale this Saturday with regular visitors.

Opportunity to meet the structure’s volunteers, including Monique Barret, general secretary of the local branch.

Goal. “At Secours populaire, we do not want a form of assistantship, but rather that the received person, whom we call the beneficiary, is an actor in their life and their projects. To do this, we ask the recipients to contribute to the life of the committee by actively participating in our various events, such as the sale,” explains Monique Barret.

The observation. “With 67 beneficiary families, seven more than last year, we have a significant increase in the number of people supported. They come from Briare, Ouzouer-sur-Trézée, La Bussière, Bonny-sur-Loire or Châtillon-sur-Loire. The economic and now energy crises drag people into a kind of misery,” adds the Secretary-General.

The accompaniment. “With the seven people who make up the office and all the volunteers, we hand out packages every Thursday and open the wardrobe for everyone on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday. We have a quality collaboration with the Carrefour market Briare and collections from the following stores: Lidl, U Express and G20 de Châtillon. On the other hand, we collect clothing donations from private individuals, at the same time remembering that we are not a waste collection centre…”, clarifies Monique Barret, who wants the recipients’ dignity to be respected.

Projects. “Like every year, we participate in the Christmas market in the town of Briare on 19 and 20 November. Then we will participate in a recreational afternoon in the socio-cultural center, following a partnership with the cooperative council of the Belleville power plant (Cher), where about thirty children from the Secours populaire will be able to participate in a show and receive gifts from the committee. In this area, we appeal to the generosity of people who can deliver good quality or new games to the premises”, concludes the volunteer.

Desk. Monique Barret is assisted by Marc Pinat, Deputy Secretary General, Jean-Charles Perray, Treasurer, and Christelle Devaux, Deputy Treasurer.
