The Stadia app gets its last update before Google shuts down

Google is releasing a new update to its Stadia app, and it will be the last. In fact, the cloud gaming service will close its doors on January 18.

The proposed update simply makes sure to display a message to warn users that Stadia will close on January 18. A link to a FAQ is provided to guide all those who are not aware.

The closure of Stadia was announced by Google last September. It was a moderate surprise at this point, knowing that the service was not popular. Despite everything, several players remained hopeful knowing that Google had refused a closure during the summer. A few weeks later, the story changed.

“A few years ago, we also launched a consumer game service, Stadia. And while Stadia’s approach to consumer game streaming was built on a solid technological foundation, it didn’t generate the user interest we expected.”admitted Phil Harrison, head of the cloud gaming service. “We’re grateful for the dedicated Stadia players who have been with us from the start”he added.

Google is committed to providing refunds, both for hardware and for games and additional content purchased from the Google Store. The group expects that the majority of repayments will be completed by mid-January 2023.
