According to the study published by the comparator Meilleurtaux Assurances in collaboration with Europe 1 and “Les Échos”, the annual contribution to a mutual insurance company for a family with two children has increased from 1,100 euros in 2021 to 1,172 euros on average in 2022 Conversely, the price of the supplementary health insurance for seniors to remain stable in 2022.

The prices of the supplementary health insurance have increased further in 2022, shows the study published by the comparison company Meilleurtaux Assurances in collaboration with Europa 1 and The echoes. Families are particularly affected by high prices. On average, the annual contribution for a family with two children who have taken out a classic guarantee contract has increased from 1,100 euros in 2021 to 1,172 euros in 2022, i.e. an increase of 6.55%.

High prices for families and seniors

The price of supplementary health insurance for seniors remains stable in 2022, the first time in ten years, but is also high. For example, at national level, a 60-year-old married couple with an enhanced guarantee contract saw their contribution billed at 2,890 euros on average in 2022, seven euros more than in 2021. “There is a level of consumption of medical care and goods which is growing very strongly” , explains Samuel Bansard, president of Meilleurtaux Assurances, for whom mutuals may have tried to spare this segment of their clientele targeted for sharp increases in recent years. “One can wonder if the various insurance companies have not collected more between the populations”, he wonders.

Unlike auto and home insurers, which have pledged not to raise their rates beyond inflation in 2023, the mutual insurance sector has not made a similar commitment at this stage.

A helping hand for students and job seekers

On the other hand, the mutuals have decided to give a boost to students and job seekers who are dependent on their parents. They will now be able to remain covered by the family unit trust until they turn 28, up from 25 at the moment, at no extra cost.
