Karel Geraerts wants players ‘ready to go to the coals’ against Braga

Union Saint-Gilloise receives Braga on Thursday evening with the status of the team to be beaten in Group D of the Europa League. Indeed, the people of Brussels have succeeded flawlessly so far with an exciting 9 out of 9 for this return to historic Europe. But the work is not done for the band Karel Geraerts who now wishes to register his qualification. “DOES NOTyour 9 out of 9 doesn’t change anything“, the Unionist coach warned in a pre-match press conference on Wednesday, announcing the color of his side’s intentions.

Geraerts then spoke to RTBF to clarify the team’s state of mind ahead of this highly anticipated meeting. “It’s a new European night for the Union, and when you know where you come from, it’s still a dream, it’s still something extraordinary“, first recalled the former player of Club Brugge and Standard at Christophe Reculez’s microphone.

“Like every match, we will play it to win it. We must be mentally ready for this duel (…) The most important thing is that the players are ready to go to the coals when the referee blows the whistle to start the match. We will see at the final whistle, whether the mission is accomplished.” smiled Geraerts, who expects solid opposition.

“Braga are a team that lost in the last minutes against us last week. If I were them, I would be angry and I would want revenge. It will be up to us to manage that pressure and those emotions.

A pressure that does not worry the Unionist coach, convinced that his players will have a respondent. “I feel the group very well, in a very good mood. I am convinced that there will be a natural stress which will do us good before we go on the field.”said Geraerts again.
