Dangerous dog owner sentenced to two years in prison after multiple attacks

She was sentenced in his absence. A 51-year-old woman was sentenced to two years in prison by Vannes Criminal Court on Thursday, reports Western France. Justice accused her of repeated neglect regarding her dogs, with whom she lived in a caravan.

The four mastiffs, American Staffordshire Terriers, were already not in good condition, as the accused had no detention permit and had not registered them with the town hall. They had mainly carried out attacks on female hikers in October and November 2019 in the town of Saint-Nolff.

Seriously injured and traumatized victims

Bitten several times, several of them were seriously injured. “Their hateful look, the apparent fangs. One bit me, the others followed. I was nothing but a piece of meat,” testified one of the victims, quoted by the daily. Three years after the attacks, some of the victims are also still traumatized.

In addition to the prison sentence, the owner of the dogs must also pay more than 25,000 euros to the civil parties. It is also prohibited to own category 1 and 2 dogs.
