The gendarmerie investigation continues after the death of a motorcyclist, Saturday April 30, in Beaufort-en-Anjou, in Maine-et-Loire.
According to the first elements collected from witnesses, the driver of the car involved, who had fled after the accident before going to the gendarmerie the next day, may not be involved in the collision.
A chase before the accident?
Motorists reported that he had behaved dangerously before the accident. “He would have zigzagged and would have carried out a chase with another motorist” , indicates the public prosecutor of Saumur, Alexandra Verron. But at the time of the impact, the driver of the car would not have been at fault. The biker, “who was driving at excessive speed according to witnesses” , overtook a car and did not see the involved vehicle take a turn. At this time, the reason the driver fled after the crash remains to be determined.
Towards the opening of a judicial investigation
The gendarmes know that he was driving when he was not insured, but he did indeed hold a driving license. “It is not known at this stage of the investigation whether he was driving under the influence of an alcoholic state and under the influence of narcotics” , concludes the public prosecutor.
A judicial investigation will be opened and entrusted to an investigating judge. The 30-year-old driver will be referred this Wednesday, May 4. He should be charged with aggravated manslaughter.
