At least ten people were injured, two seriously, Monday in Lakeland, central Florida, during a shooting, authorities said.
New drama in America. At least ten people were injured in a shooting in Lakeland, Florida, CNN reports. Local police chief Sam Taylor said two people are in a “critical condition” after being attacked by four gunmen.
The suspects in this shooting were in a Nissan car when they opened fire.
“The vehicle slowed down, didn’t stop, and the four windows rolled down. (…) They started shooting from the four windows of the vehicle, shooting at men on both sides,” explains Sam Taylor.
“It’s something that doesn’t happen in Lakeland”
The authorities will now seek to determine who was in the car. An investigation has been opened.
Sam Taylor told CNN that in his 34 years with the Lakeland Police Department, he has never worked on a case where so many people were shot at once. “That’s something that doesn’t happen in Lakeland,” he said.
The United States pays a very high price for the proliferation of firearms on its territory and the ease with which Americans have access to them. About 49,000 people died from firearms in 2021 in the United States, compared to 45,000 in 2020, which was already a record year. This corresponds to more than 130 deaths per day, of which more than half are suicides.
