Several countries affected by the phenomenon
Due to a mosquito, nearly 765,000 doses of the Covid Moderna vaccine had to be recalled. In fact, the Spanish Agency for Medicines and Health Products (AEMPS), has announced the withdrawal from the market of all the units distributed from the affected batch. From what we know is that the batch was produced in the factory that the Spanish pharmaceutical company ROVI, strategic partner of Moderna. There, the company takes care of the filling and packaging of the vaccine.
According to Moderna’s internal investigation, the mosquito entered the vaccine vial during production. And unfortunately, no one was able to detect it in time. Not even by routine checks. In addition to Spain, the recalled batch had also been distributed in Portugal, Poland, Norway and Sweden, countries which also alerted their respective health systems. Fortunately, there were no problems following this discovery.
No security problem according to the Rovi laboratory
Rovi Lab, which is where the problem originated, issued a joint statement with Moderna. In it, he explains that he made ” a cumulative search of its global safety database” and found “no safety concerns regarding people who received the vaccine“. Furthermore, the company does not do not believe it poses a risk to other vials in the batch or affects the significant benefit/risk profile”.
Rovi also states that more than 900 million doses of the serum have been administered worldwide without incident. Finally, for its part, Moderna clarified that it had found “no safety problem concerning the people who received the vaccine”.
